Terms of Use

What this site is
The Object Collective is a personal journal. I am a beginner collector writing down what I learn as I learn it: not a dealer, not an appraiser, and not an authority. By using this site you accept the terms below. If you do not accept them, please do not use it.
This is not professional advice
Everything here is offered for interest and education. In particular, nothing on this site is:
- A valuation. Prices for antique and studio glass move with fashion, condition, provenance and the mood of the room on the day. Any figure mentioned here is context, not an appraisal.
- An authentication or attribution. Attributing unsigned glass is genuinely difficult, specialists disagree, and I get things wrong. If it matters, whether for insurance, a sale or a serious purchase, get an opinion from a reputable auction house or an established specialist dealer.
- Investment advice. Buy glass because you want to look at it. Please do not treat a collection as a pension.
- Legal, tax or financial advice.
Decisions you make about buying, selling, cleaning, restoring or insuring an object are yours. If a piece is valuable, fragile or uncertain, take specialist advice before you act.
Accuracy, and corrections
I research what I publish and I try to get it right, but this site is written by one person and it will contain mistakes. Nothing here is guaranteed to be complete, current or accurate.
If you spot an error, please tell me. Use the contact page. Corrections are genuinely welcome, and I would rather be corrected than confidently wrong. Where a correction changes the substance of an article, I will note it on the article rather than quietly editing it.
Copyright
The written content of this site, and any photographs I have taken myself, are © The Object Collective, 2026 onwards. All rights reserved.
What you may do without asking: quote a short extract, a sentence or two, for review, comment, criticism or teaching, provided you credit The Object Collective and link back to the page you took it from. Share a link anywhere you like.
What you may not do without my written permission: republish an article in whole or in substantial part, whether or not you credit it; copy the site’s structure, design or images wholesale; or reproduce the content in print or in another publication.
Text and data mining, and AI training. I do not permit the content of this site to be copied, scraped or otherwise extracted for the purpose of text and data mining, or for training, fine-tuning or grounding machine learning or generative AI systems. This is an express reservation of rights for the purposes of Article 4(3) of EU Directive 2019/790 and the corresponding UK provisions. Permission may be available: ask.
Images I did not take. Many photographs here come from other photographers and collections, and are used under their own licences. Every article that carries such an image ends with an image credits list recording the creator, the source and the licence for each one. Those images are not mine to license on. If you want to reuse one, go to its original source and follow that licence.
Acceptable use
Please do not scrape the site with automated tools, attempt to break or overload it, probe it for vulnerabilities, or use it to distribute anything unlawful. Normal reading, linking and sharing is exactly what it is here for.
Messages you send me
When you send a message through the contact form, please do not include anything confidential or sensitive. It is an email inbox, not a secure channel.
Reader questions are often better than anything I would have thought to write about, so I may quote a question, anonymously and without your email address, in an article. If you would rather I did not, say so in your message and I will not.
Links to other sites
Links to dealers, auction houses, museums and other collectors are there because I thought they were useful. They are not endorsements, I do not control what is on the other end, and I am not responsible for those sites or for anything you buy through them.
Advertising and affiliate links
The site currently carries no advertising and no affiliate links.
If that changes, the rule will be simple: anything paid will be labelled as paid, clearly and at the point you see it, not buried on a policy page. An affiliate link means I may earn a small commission if you buy through it, at no extra cost to you. Payment will never buy a favourable opinion, and I will not recommend an object, dealer or book I would not recommend anyway.
Liability
Nothing in these terms limits my liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Beyond that, the site is provided as it is. I do not guarantee that it will be available, uninterrupted or error free, and to the extent the law allows I am not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of it, from reliance on anything published here, or from any purchase, sale, cleaning, repair or storage decision you take as a result.
Changes
I may update these terms. The date at the top will change when I do, and continuing to use the site means accepting the current version.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
